Retired band director Charles J. Gray was the Director of Bands at Rubidoux High School in Rubidoux, California from 1985 – 2003 and Riverside King High School in Riverside, California from 2003 – 2018. During his 33 years of teaching groups under his direction have had an unprecedented record of accomplishments! He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a California Teacher’s Credential, from California State University, Fullerton. He is in demand as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor throughout the Southwest. He has judged band competitions in California and Idaho and has done clinics with bands throughout California.
Recognized for his musical excellence, knowledge and promotion of literature for band, Charles Gray and his groups have performed and recorded over 25 CD’s that have included many of his performance ensembles. His impassioned leadership has resulted in invitations for both Rubidoux and Riverside King to perform throughout the United States, Europe, and major conferences and conventions.
His groups have performed and won the Arcadia Band Review, and the Fiesta Bowl National Field Show Competitions and Parade Competitions many times throughout his years of teaching. In 2007 they marched in the 118th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade!
Charles’s groups have been referred to as “Hollywood’s Band” and have been seen on a variety of television shows, commercials, music videos, three Super Bowl commercials and in many movies. Highly regarded by the Walt Disney organization, his groups have appeared at Disney Theme Parks numerous times over his 33 years in teaching.
